A Leading Center for the Arts

Lowertown has long had the largest concentration of working artists of any city in the Midwest, more than 500 at last count. This large and growing community continues to have a major influence on the quality of life in the neighborhood, and adds significantly to its cultural and artistic richness.

These artists have recently been joined by some of the most prominent arts organizations in the nation, including the world famous Jerome Foundation, a major supporter of arts activities nationwide, as well as the Minnesota State Arts Board and Resources and Counseling for the Arts, both of whom assist individual artists in developing their careers. Several of the Twin Cities' most important galleries and a leading museum frame shop are also located here, providing support and important markets for local artists.

The arts community also benefits from Lowertown's emergence as a cyber village, providing ready access to the Internet and other information age technologies.
